Combined from my "Notes" and "Evernote" apps, when I search the word "dream" about 14 different notes pop up. It's not a ridiculous amount, but it's enough to worth noting. I have documented my dreams mostly because I'm curious about my sleeping brain. I know people document them to try to lucid dream. I'm not super interested in that, and so far I have not lucid dreamed.
I do believe that there is some correlation between my dreams and real life. For instance, I find that I remember my dreams most often when I am more anxious. If I am worried about something like an upcoming interview or I am just in an anxious state, then more often than not, I wake up remembering my dreams. Sometimes, the dreams are incredibly vivid. Sometimes they are more fuzzy. I might have to write a dream down quickly, lest I forget the sequences, the characters, or other details. In addition, most of my dreams are often dark, mysterious, and edgy. Some of my dreams could be horror-movie worthy.
I'll share some bits are pieces I've collected over the years.

"I had a dream the other night about a place that everyone went to all the time and always ended up seeing deer. We went there and sure enough there was a medium-sized deer, but we were concerned because there was another larger deer nearby and we thought that might be the medium-sized deer’s mother. So we asked the deer, “are you a baby?” and the deer said, “no I am not a baby.” I was a little scared until the deer eased my mind.
Then the dream took me to a pool that was murky like a lake or a pond. I jumped in the pool and felt weird suction-cup flippers that were a little prickly attach to me and start to pull me under. I thought at first that it was an otter or something like that. Then I was released and I swam back to the surface and got out. I looked into the water and saw that they were not otters, but they were kind of like sea lions, but much shinier and smoother and they were charcoal black and some had white blotches. They were very thin, but one was extremely thin, so much so, that you could see his bones and no blubber. I told my younger sister to not swim in the pool. She jumped in anyway. One of the creatures came out with her and pulled itself onto the side ledge of the pool. She started playing with it like it was a dog and I stood taking pictures of her and the creature playing. I was pretty freaked out when the creature grabbed me and pulled me into the water. I thought I could help and save my sister by telling her not to do the same thing that I had done.
Then the dream transitioned to a rocky, cliff-like area at night where there was this guy that was playing a game and adventuring with me. I was happy. Very happy in this moment with the nature and wind and the guy smiling about this fun thing we were doing together."
I don't know that dreams like this have any meaning besides showing a tiny bit into what we might be processing at the time. Maybe I was thinking about my sister. Maybe I was thinking about lofty adventures. Maybe I wasn't. It's really too hard to tell.
While living in Hawaii, I discovered my intense fear of cockroaches. I was having many nightmares about cockroaches. This was one of them:

"Another dream with bugs, cockroaches, spiders, ants. I wanted everyone to come for my birthday to just answer a few questions. There were cockroaches coming out of the shower head when I tried to take a shower and they were in the toilets so I couldn't go to the bathroom. The ants were trying to get from a bucket to the other wall and they walked across a very thing object to get there. The spider was terrifying with a huge nest and it was so big."
I remember that the cockroaches in my dream were exaggerated to be huge six-inch creatures. In reality, they are about 1.5 inches long (which is still huge). My brain definitely makes the bugs out to be astronomical in size. It's also kind of an interesting note that my birthday was actually coming up.
Overall, I have more to discuss about dreams, but this is a good overview.
